Account deletion is permanent. Save anything you are allowed to keep before requesting deletion.
What happens
- We review and verify your account deletion request.
- Once account ownership is verified, the account and associated content are removed from public access.
- We permanently remove or disconnect the data from our systems, retaining only what is legally required. There is no waiting period.
- We confirm account deletion completion. Our normal target is seven calendar days. But some cases may take up to 30 days, or longer, when there is an identity dispute, a limited legal or safety hold, a service-provider limitation, or another documented lawful reason. We do not call a partly completed request finished.
Can I cancel?
You may ask to cancel only before permanent removal begins. Taking an account offline does not guarantee a cancellation window. Once permanent removal starts, SYR may be unable to restore the account or content.
What deletion covers
The process covers the profile, photos, captions, comments, replies, messages, connections, device and notification links, provider grants that can still be linked, sign-in identity, and other account-linked records.
- Deleting your photo also removes its comments, replies, and photo-linked private chat.
- If your comment or reply belongs to another person's photo, SYR removes your words and identity but may leave a blank structural marker so other people's replies still make sense.
- If your message belongs to a private chat that otherwise remains, SYR removes your words and identity while other people's messages remain.
- A chat that cannot work without the deleted photo or account is removed.
- SYR checks the result before it reports the request as complete.
Limited exceptions and copies outside SYR
The seven-day normal target or 30-day outer target may be extended only for an identity dispute, a limited legal or safety hold, a service-provider limitation, or another documented lawful reason. Anything retained must stay limited to that purpose and period and cannot return to ordinary product use.
Ordinary support content is scheduled for removal no later than 30 days after the matter closes, and raw routine logs no later than 30 days after collection. A service provider's remaining copies follow its documented deletion schedule. Routine safety and moderation case records may remain for 24 months after closure; a serious non-CSAM safety case may remain for five years after closure. Minimal audit, ban, or suppression records may remain for up to 24 months with at least annual review. The contents submitted in a CyberTipline report are scheduled for deletion one year after submission unless another documented duty or active hold requires a different period. Active holds are reviewed at least every 90 days and need two separately authorized people to release them.
Encrypted recovery backups are locked for 30 days and targeted to expire after 30 days. A hosting provider may need its documented processing window to finish deleting a remaining copy; that copy stays protected and out of ordinary use. A restored service must reapply completed deletions before it becomes available.
SYR cannot delete screenshots, gallery saves, offline copies, copies held by recipients, or historical records controlled by another provider. Once permanent removal begins, restoration is not promised; a later account is a new account.
